Maruti Suzuki has launched the WagonR Flex Fuel in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 7.24 lakh. The new model is designed to run on higher ethanol-petrol blends and marks an important step in the country's shift towards cleaner and locally produced fuels.
Based on the top-spec ZXi+ variant, the WagonR Flex Fuel is currently available only for commercial buyers. The launch follows the government's recent push to promote ethanol-based mobility and reduce dependence on imported crude oil.
WagonR Flex Fuel Gets Modified 1.2-Litre Petrol Engine
Powering the WagonR Flex Fuel is a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. The engine has been updated with specialised components and software to support ethanol blends ranging from E20 to E85, while also being engineered for E100 compatibility.
Compared to the standard WagonR ZXi+ petrol-manual variant, the Flex Fuel version carries a premium of around Rs. 86,000. Maruti Suzuki is yet to reveal detailed fuel-efficiency figures for the new model.
Features Remain Similar to the Standard WagonR
The WagonR Flex Fuel retains the familiar design of the regular model, with only a few visual changes such as Flex Fuel badging. Inside, the cabin layout remains unchanged and continues to offer a roomy and comfortable interior.
Feature highlights include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, along with steering-mounted controls. The WagonR Flex Fuel also gets alloy wheels, fog lamps, electrically adjustable ORVMs, six airbags, and electronic stability control.
Infrastructure Expansion Key to Wider Adoption
The launch of the WagonR Flex Fuel comes as India expands its ethanol-fuel ecosystem. Currently, ethanol dispensing stations are available in select regions, including parts of Delhi-NCR and the Mumbai-Nagpur corridor.
The government aims to significantly increase the number of ethanol fuel outlets by the end of 2027, which is expected to improve accessibility for flex-fuel vehicle owners. As infrastructure grows, more ethanol-compatible vehicles are likely to enter the Indian market in the coming years.
