Maruti Brezza Crosses 15 Lakh Sales Milestone in India

Maruti Suzuki’s Brezza has officially crossed the 15 lakh cumulative sales benchmark since its initial market introduction in March 2016. Domestic sales account for 14.61 lakh units, while exports contribute over 52,800 units. The achievement reinforces the sub-four-metre vehicle's strong position in the Indian automotive market, where it maintains a lead over key competitors.

Market Performance and Milestones

Since its debut, the Brezza has served as a primary driver for Maruti Suzuki’s utility vehicle portfolio. Domestic sales account for 34 percent of the company's total utility vehicle volume during this period.

  • Segment Leadership: Maintains a 4.22-lakh unit sales lead over its closest segment competitor, the Tata Nexon.
  • Peak Volume: Achieved its highest annual volume in FY2025, recording 1,89,163 domestic units.
  • First Quarter FY2027: Recorded 37,488 sales, marking a temporary 20 percent decline due to buyers anticipating the 2026 update.

Historical Sales Trajectory

The model launched exclusively with a 1.3-litre diesel engine before transitioning to a petrol-only lineup in April 2020. The table below outlines domestic and export performance across financial years:

The Brezza’s transition from a diesel-only offering to a petrol and CNG model demonstrates adaptable consumer demand in urban markets. Despite losing the top overall SUV spot to midsize rivals in recent years, it remains India's bestselling compact SUV by volume. The arrival of the refreshed 2026 model, featuring cosmetic updates and a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, aims to sustain sales momentum amid growing segment competition.
