Mahindra Chakan Plant Achieves 3 Million Vehicle Milestone

Mahindra & Mahindra has announced that its Chakan manufacturing facility has crossed the milestone of producing three million vehicles. The milestone vehicle is the Mahindra BE 6 electric SUV, highlighting the plant's growing role in manufacturing both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicles.
The Chakan plant started operations in December 2009 and has become one of Mahindra's key production hubs. The company said it produced its latest one million vehicles in just 27 months, making it nearly four times faster than the time taken to produce its first million vehicles.
Chakan Plant Builds 19 Models and Over 450 Variants
Spread across 657 acres, the Chakan facility is one of Mahindra's largest manufacturing hubs. It currently produces 19 models and more than 450 variants across passenger vehicles, electric vehicles, and commercial vehicles.
The company said the plant supports flexible multi-model production, allowing it to manufacture different vehicle types on the same production lines. It also plays a key role in Mahindra's domestic and export operations.
Key Features of the Chakan Manufacturing Plant
Mahindra said the Chakan facility combines advanced manufacturing technology with sustainable operations. Key highlights include:
- 3D component scanning, real-time weld monitoring, and "No Fault Forward" quality checks.
- Around 1,500 robots, over 98% body-shop automation, and seven flexible assembly lines.
- AI-based monitoring for PPE compliance and shop-floor safety.
- More than 50% renewable energy usage, with EV production powered by 100% renewable energy.
- Water-positive operations, annual rainwater recharge of around 9.91 lakh kilolitres, and Zero Waste to Landfill certification.
- Vehicle exports to global markets, including South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
