Jeep Is Bringing A Pickup Truck To India: Is The Gladiator On Its Way?
Table of Content

Summarize this blog post with:

Jeep is preparing to enter India’s premium pickup truck segment as part of Stellantis’ new product strategy announced in October 2026. The company has confirmed plans for a D segment pickup, although it has not officially named the model.

The Jeep Gladiator is the likely candidate, based on recent reports. The pickup could expand Jeep’s Indian lineup beyond SUVs. However, its launch date, India specific specifications, and price remain unconfirmed.

Jeep Gladiator India Launch: What We Know

Stellantis plans to introduce 12 new models across Jeep and Citroen in India by 2030. Jeep’s roadmap includes four new models and one update.

The new Jeep models will cover several segments:

  • A B segment SUV
  • A C segment SUV
  • A D segment SUV
  • A D segment pickup truck

The Gladiator shares its underpinnings with the Wrangler and could become Jeep’s flagship lifestyle pickup in India. Reports suggest it may arrive through local assembly using completely knocked down (CKD) kits.

Jeep has not announced an official launch date. Its expected price could start around Rs 75 lakh (ex showroom), according to current estimates.

Jeep Gladiator: Engine, Features And Off Road Ability

Internationally, the Jeep Gladiator comes with a 3.6 litre naturally aspirated V6 petrol engine. It produces 288 PS and 352 Nm of torque, paired with an eight speed automatic transmission.

Power reaches all four wheels through a four wheel drive system. Its off road equipment includes terrain modes, a low range transfer case, and heavy duty Dana axles.

Depending on the variant, buyers also get additional hardware, including an electronic rear locking differential and FOX dampers.

The cabin features a 12.3 inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and dual zone climate control. Other equipment includes heated front seats, an Alpine sound system, and Level 2 ADAS.

However, Jeep has not confirmed which features or powertrain will reach India.

Jeep Gladiator Rivals: Toyota Hilux And Isuzu V Cross

The Jeep car would enter a niche segment with limited direct competition. The Toyota Hilux and Isuzu V Cross are its key market alternatives.

The Toyota Hilux offers a more established presence in India’s lifestyle pickup segment. The Isuzu V Cross also targets buyers seeking a pickup for touring and outdoor activities.

However, the Gladiator’s expected price would place it significantly above these alternatives. Its appeal would likely centre on its Jeep identity, off road hardware, and distinctive design.

The Wrangler could also attract similar buyers, although it offers an SUV body rather than an open cargo bed.

What It Could Mean For Indian Buyers

The Jeep car could suit enthusiasts who want off road ability and a practical cargo bed for outdoor equipment. Its pickup format may also appeal to buyers who regularly carry bulky gear.

But its expected premium pricing could limit its audience. Fuel costs from the V6 petrol engine may also matter to buyers planning frequent long distance trips.

Jeep’s India launch plans remain under development. Buyers should wait for official confirmation of pricing, specifications, and availability before making purchase decisions.

Car Junction Insights

I believe the Jeep Gladiator could bring a distinctive option to India’s premium pickup segment, especially for buyers who enjoy off road adventures. However, its expected high price and V6 petrol engine may limit its appeal. Its success will depend on India specific features, ownership costs, and how competitively Jeep positions it against established rivals.
