Bentley Unveils Torcal EV, India Launch Planned for 2027

Bentley has revealed the Torcal, its first-ever electric car, ahead of its India launch in the second half of 2027. The luxury electric SUV is expected to cost around Rs. 4.5 crore, ex-showroom.

The Torcal will sit below the Bentayga and become Bentley’s fourth model line. It will be sold only as an electric car, with no petrol engine planned.

Exterior Styling and Interior Layout

The Bentley Torcal follows the brand’s latest design direction. Its name comes from El Torcal de Antequera, a limestone landscape in southern Spain.

It is also the first Bentley to feature the brand’s redesigned emblem, which was revealed last year.

Exterior elements include:

• Illuminated grille with crystal-effect elements
• Slim lighting inspired by the Continental T
• Long bonnet and short overhangs
• 21-inch standard wheels
• 22-inch wheels on the First Edition
• Slim tail-lamps with U-shaped detailing
• 90-litre front storage space

The Torcal sits 50mm lower and 120mm shorter than the standard-wheelbase Bentayga. Its wheelbase is slightly longer than three metres, while its overall length is around five metres.

The cabin gets a new design with a curved OLED screen. The display flows into the centre console instead of sitting separately on the dashboard.

The SUV also gets radar-controlled powered doors. The driver can close the door by pressing the brake pedal. Rear passengers can close their doors by fastening their seat belts.

Luxury Materials and Cabin Experience

The Torcal combines wood veneers, aluminium, piano black surfaces and leather in 15 shades. It also gets 100 percent Merino wool upholstery developed with Fox Brothers.

Mulliner offers Ombre Walnut and Sunburst Aluminium finishes, while the Frosted Diamond sunroof uses switchable glass.

Four Experience Modes adjust the cabin and driving settings. Sport, Bentley, Comfort and Refresh modes change lighting, sound, climate and displays, with Comfort adding a ‘digital detox’ function.

Electric Powertrain and Range

The Bentley Torcal uses the PPE platform, which also underpins the Porsche Cayenne Electric. The flagship version gets two permanent-magnet motors.

The motors produce 888 hp and 1,350 Nm of torque. The roughly 2.7-tonne SUV can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds.

It also gets launch control. Power comes from a 113 kWh net battery with an 800V electrical system.

Bentley claims a 600 km WLTP range for the Torcal.

Charging and Chassis Technology

A 400 kW charger takes the Torcal from 10 to 80 percent in 16 minutes. A seven-minute stop can add around 160 km of range. India currently lacks chargers offering these speeds.

The Torcal uses fully active suspension, five-degree rear-wheel steering and an 11.1-metre turning circle. Optional carbon-ceramic brakes get 440mm front discs.

Its ADAS package combines 25 radars, sensors and cameras. The system can reverse the SUV along its last 50 metres and park it up to 200 metres away.

The Torcal marks a major change for Bentley after 107 years of petrol-powered cars. The company has replaced its traditional engine-led approach with an electric powertrain.

The SUV combines 888 hp, 1,350 Nm of torque and a claimed 600 km range. Bentley has also retained physical controls, premium materials and rear-seat features in the new EV.

The Torcal is slightly smaller than the Bentayga but is expected to cost more in India. This is linked to the different customs-duty treatment for EVs under the new UK-India Free Trade Agreement.

With its India launch planned for the second half of 2027, the Torcal will introduce Bentley’s first electric model to the Indian luxury car market.
