Tata Motors has launched the new Altroz iCNG AMT in the Indian market. With this update, the Altroz becomes the first and only premium hatchback in India to offer an automatic transmission with a CNG powertrain. The company announced the launch on 12 May 2026 in Mumbai.

The new model combines the fuel-saving benefits of CNG with the comfort of automatic driving. As a result, city driving becomes easier and more relaxed, especially in daily traffic conditions. In addition, Tata Motors continues to expand the Altroz lineup with petrol, diesel, CNG, and automatic options.

The starting price of the Altroz iCNG AMT stands at ₹8.69 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi).

Engine and Performance Details

1.2L Revotron iCNG Engine with AMT Gearbox

The Altroz iCNG AMT comes with a 1.2-litre Revotron iCNG engine. It delivers 73.5 PS power and 103 Nm torque in CNG mode. Tata Motors has now paired this engine with an AMT gearbox, which improves driving comfort in heavy traffic and busy city roads.

Moreover, the hatchback uses a single advanced ECU system. Because of this technology, the switch between petrol and CNG modes feels smooth and quick. In addition, the car offers a Direct Start in CNG mode, allowing drivers to start the vehicle directly in CNG mode without extra effort.

Perhaps the biggest highlight of the Altroz iCNG AMT is its twin-cylinder technology. Tata Motors has placed the cylinders below the luggage area. Therefore, the hatchback still provides a practical 210-litre boot space in CNG mode. However, the petrol and diesel versions offer 345 litres of boot space.

The Altroz iCNG AMT continues with the premium styling of the updated Altroz range. It gets flush door handles, infinity connected LED tail lamps, and sleek LED headlamps with DRLs.

Inside the cabin, Tata Motors has added several comfort and technology features. The hatchback comes with executive lounge-style rear seats and a soft-touch Grand Prestigia dashboard. In addition, buyers get 26.03 cm twin digital screens for infotainment and instrumentation by HARMAN.

The cabin also includes ambient lighting, which improves the overall premium feel. Moreover, the spacious layout offers better comfort for passengers during long and short journeys.

Since its launch, the Altroz has built a strong position in the premium hatchback segment. It became the first hatchback in India to receive a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating in 2020. Later, the hatchback also secured a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating in 2025.

Moreover, the Altroz remains the only hatchback in India that offers a diesel engine option. Tata Motors also introduced the innovative twin-cylinder iCNG technology earlier in this segment.
