This September saw a massive demand for EV vehicles, especially for the cars. According to FADA, India’s Electric Passenger Vehicle (E-PV) market registered its highest-ever monthly retail volume of 36,108 units in September 2026. A near double growth on yearly basis, if you look at September 2025 sales and almost 54% jump on monthly basis.
This surge lifted E-PV market penetration to a fresh peak of 8.5% of all passenger vehicles sold in September, up from 7.6% in August 2026 and 5.7% in September 2025. Unlike the broader auto industry where growth was amplified by a lower base, September's E-PV performance represents a clean, absolute record fueled by genuine demand across urban and tier-2 markets.

Car Junction's Insights
The September electric PV figures highlight a rapid diversification in buyer preference beyond traditional market leaders. We can see Tata Motors continues to command over 40% of the market, the combination of aggressive SUV line-ups from Mahindra (+95.8% YoY) and the rapid market scaling of VinFast Auto (capturing over 8% market share). This indicates that the E-PV landscape is shifting from a single-player dominance into an intensely competitive, multi-brand ecosystem. As overall penetration hits 8.5%, passenger electric vehicles are firmly establishing themselves as mainstream choices rather than fringe alternatives.
